My shop beginnings started in 1996 with my interest to find a material that replicated the look of naturally occurring amber. After researching a host of different resins-none individually offering all of the properties I wanted-I decided to go one step better and create my own unique product combining two types of resins that would offer superlative physical and aesthetic properties. After coming up with this new product where I could transform liquid resin into solid artistic statements that were functional as well as beautiful, I also had to design the equipment to make the product and create it in large sizes to suit the design/build industry. Those early efforts and numerous years of fine tuning gave birth to the Fossil Faux Studios and the unparalleled custom resin work for which the company is now known for.

The alchemy of transformation, manipulating liquids into stable forms with superlative physical properties and virtually limitless looks, is the focus of Stuermer Studios. We have one large production facility where all of our large, architectural creations are made and a smaller R&D art studio where I create the grooves sold in the Etsy shop, company custom samples for clients and my own resin-based artworks.

The translucent groove device stands were born from need and developed through a bit of ingenuity. After purchasing an iPad, I needed a stand that would hold the device enabling handsfree functionality. Using overruns of our resin product in the prototyping phase, I quickly developed a stand of resin with the perfect angle and a depression to access the 'home' button. I kept the design minimal to reflect the sleek design of the iPad and aptly named the product "the groove!" The groove quickly caught on with past customers and new clients alike and I was able to further develop a sustainable strategy whereby the material for the grooves became integrated with our large-scale resin manufacturing and actually reduced waste.

Now, the translucent resin groove stand with the modern minimalist aesthetics is available for tablets and smartphones and every order is customized to fit each client's device needs.
